As someone who has a very busy schedule, i’m always interested in hearing about how exceptionally successful people manage their days for optimum success.

Below is part 1 of my blog which will take a look at a few of the habits of some highly successful people – think Richard Branson and Barack Obama – that could help us all get a lot closer to being a more efficient version of ourselves.  I for one need all the help I can get!!  Part 2 to follow next week.

  • They have a plan of action Having a clear plan for the week ahead allows you to know exactly what you are doing each day, to focus on specific tasks and set clear goals for yourself.

Jack Dorsey (Twitter founder) plans out each day of his weekly routine in advance so it looks like this:

  • Monday: Management and running the company
  • Tuesday: Product
  • Wednesday: Marketing and communications, growth
  • Thursday: Developers and partnerships
  • Friday: Company Culture and recruiting
  • The early bird will catch the worm

Successful people absolutely wake up early because the earlier they begin the day, the more time they’ll have to get things accomplished.

  • They prepare for the day ahead

Steve Jobs, cofounder of Apple would do one simple thing every morning to ensure that he got the best out of himself.  After waking up, he would go to the mirror, look at himself and ask: “If today was the last day of my life, would I be happy with what I’m about to do today?”

If he found himself saying no to this question too often, he said he knew that something needed to change.

  • They exercise

Most exceptionally successful people get their workouts in early in the morning, just in case they have other distractions that crop up later in the day.  Exercising in the morning also helps keep their productivity and energy levels up.

When author Tim Ferriss asked Richard Branson how he stays productive, Branson says he’s able to get four additional hours of productivity out of every day simply by keeping up with his physical activities, which includes swimming, Bikram yoga, rock climbing, running and weightlifting.

  • What they eat for breakfast

The most productive people understand how important the first meal of the day is in determining their energy levels for the rest of the day. Most stick to the same daily breakfast because it works, it’s healthy for them and they know how the meal will make their mind and body feel.

Whole Foods founder John Mackey makes a breakfast smoothie consisting of almond, oat, rice or soy milk, fresh fruit and kale or spinach leaves.

Richard Branson keeps it simple with a fruit salad and muesli.

If you want to find out how Benjamin Franklin used to end every day which gave him a well-earned sense of accomplishment and fuelled his positive state of mind, feel free to like and share and check in again next week for Part 2.
